Smoke Free Homes

🍲Healthy Cooking • Healthy Families • Healthy Community

🌍Project Background

In many Maasai communities, families cook inside traditional houses using open fire and firewood.
These houses usually have no windows or proper ventilation, causing thick smoke to remain trapped inside.
Daily exposure to indoor smoke is causing serious health problems such as:

  • Persistent cough
  • Chest pain and breathing difficulties
  • Eye irritation and headaches
  • Increased risk of pneumonia in children
  • Long-term respiratory diseases in women

Women and young children are the most affected because they spend more time near the cooking fire.
Project Solution
Maasai Volunteering Solutions is introducing improved cooking stoves fitted with a metal chimney pipe installed through the roof.
This simple and affordable technology allows dangerous smoke to safely exit the house, creating:

✅ Cleaner air inside homes
✅ Safer cooking environments
✅ Better health for families

The improved stoves also:

  • Use less firewood
  • Reduce cooking time
  • Improve fire safety
  • Reduce pressure on local forests
