WORKING IN TANZANIA SINCE 2020

MAASAI VOLUNTEERING SOLUTIONS

About Us

At Maasai Volunteering Solutions, our mission is to improve the quality of life of the Maasai community in Engikaret and protect the environment, both of which have been severely impacted by climate change. The community is embracing new knowledge and integrating it with their traditional way of life to find a balance that preserves their customs while adapting to modern challenges.

To support this, we are building the Route of Hope Community Center, which will serve as a hub for our work with the community and volunteers. If you’d like to make a difference, you can join to volunteer one of our projects, donate to support our initiatives, or collaborate remotely by becoming an ambassador.

CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM

CLIMATE CHANGE
EROSION & DROUGHT

Severe drought is crippling our main source of sustenance and income, cattle farming, while compromising our health with dust and wildlife threats. This crisis leads to species loss and forces us to share scarce water resources and look for new activities that allow us to generate incomes, improve health and take care the environment to keep also our traditional activities.

Our

Maasai Community

The Maasai community of Engikaret has been established in this area since 1987. It is composed of villages, each representing a family, with natural fences that protect both homes and livestock. Within each village, there are designated areas for animals and housing, designed to shield them from wildlife.

Traditionally, the community relied solely on livestock for their livelihood. However, the effects of climate change have significantly impacted the region, altering their practices related to food, construction, health, and education. Today, the community has opened up to external knowledge to improve their quality of life, while still preserving their cherished traditions and way of living in this land.
