💰 Income Generation & Food Security
Maasai Women Empowerment
Implemented by Maasai Volunteering Solutions
🌍 Why This Project Matters
Maasai women face increasing challenges due to climate change, drought, and limited income opportunities.
Many households rely mainly on livestock, which is becoming increasingly vulnerable.
Without alternative sources of income, food security and family stability are at risk.
This project aims to change that reality.
🎯 Our Approach
We support Maasai women to generate their own income through:
- Community savings and lending groups
- Small business training
- Poultry farming (chicken production)
Through seed funding and training, women not only receive initial support, but also develop the tools to grow independently and sustainably.
👩🏽🌾 Who We Support
- 6 women groups
- 25 women per group
- 150 Maasai women directly supported
- +750 family members indirectly impacted
⚙️ How It Works
💵 Seed Funding
Each group receives an initial fund to support:
- Small business loans
- Emergency family needs
- Investment in poultry
💰 Community Savings
Women contribute small weekly savings to grow the fund.
🔄 Lending System
- Loans are provided with small agreed interest
- Profits are reinvested within the group
🐔 Poultry Production
- Purchase of chickens
- Collective management
- Sale of eggs and poultry
👉 This generates ongoing income and improves family nutrition.
🌟 Expected Impact
- Women with access to capital and opportunities
- Increased household income
- Improved nutrition (egg consumption)
- Greater financial independence
- Stronger climate resilience
🌱 Sustainability
This is not a charity-based model.
✔ Women save and manage their own funds
✔ Interest income strengthens the system
✔ Poultry reproduction increases group assets
✔ Knowledge remains within the community
👉 The goal is for the project to continue independently over time.
💸 Project Budget
